| Entering France.
Citizens of a Member State of the European Union may enter the
French territory upon presentation of an identity card or a valid
passport.
Studying in
France.
• If you wish to pursue higher education for
less than three months, you do not need a residence permit ("carte
de séjour").
• If you wish to pursue higher education for more than three months,
you need a residence permit ("carte de séjour").
Within the first three months of your arrival in France, you
must go to the "préfecture" of
your place of residence in France and request a residence permit.
To obtain it, you must submit :
A letter from the university or school stating that
you are registered to follow their courses.
Proof of full-coverage health insurance.
Proof of sufficient financial resources to live in France
such as a letter from your bank stating that you have the equivalent
of $800.00 CAN in your
account per month of stay in France.
Minor students (under 18) Minor students going to France for a school year who possess a
valid passport from one of the European Union countries, do not
need to apply for a visa nor a residence permit to stay in France
up to eleven months.
However, in addition to their passport, they should bring to France
documents that prove the purpose of their stay in France such as
a letter from their parents, from their host family, from the school
they will be attending and full coverage for medical expenses and
civil liability as well as vaccinations. Check
the list of documents requested to citizens of countries submitted
to a visa.
If they become of age between that period of time, they must apply
for a carte de séjour soon after they turn 18.
