Entering in France :

Nationals of a Member State of the European Union may enter the French territory upon presentation of an identity card or a valid European passport.

Stay up to three months

For a stay less than three months, European Union nationals do not need a residence permit.

Stay of more than three months

Within the first three months of arrival to France, you must go to the "préfecture" of your place of residence in France and request a residence permit ("carte de séjour").

To obtain your residence permit, you must submit :

• Proof that you are receiving a pension or any other proof of sufficient financial means to live in France.

• Proof of full-coverage health insurance for you and if need be your family.

• Proof of lodging (a property deed or lease)

• When submitting your file, you will buy a fiscal stamp at the "préfecture". It costs about 160 FF (around 25 Euros).
