| Situated on the doorstep
of Paris, Higher Normandy is a popular destination among
Parisians for week-ends and many have a second home in
Normandy. But the proximity from Paris isn't enough to
justify the appeal of Normandy. The verdant countryside
called "bocage" has inspired various artists
and you will be charmed by its traditional houses and
its green fields delimited by ranges of trees and where
placid normand cows graze peacefully. Normandy has lost
none of its identity and authenticity. |

Rouen isn't only the economic capital of
Normandy but is also a city marked by its long history
beginning in Gallo-Roman times. The past is everywhere
in this city that has kept an indefinable charm from the
old times. From Rouen, follow the flow of the Seine river
to the north. The meandering river is bound by cliffs and
fringed by small roads; at each turn the valley seems richer
and more colourful (forests of Vernon, Louviers, Brotonne...).
Rich in memories, picturesque places of interest, gastronomically
appealing, this vital artery which links Paris with the
sea is one of the biggest tourist wonders of the region. |
| Then the Seine river finally reached the
sea, flowing under the famous bridges of Tancarville and
Normandy, modern architectural masterpieces. On your right,
the industrial city of Le Havre and extending to Le Tréport
the chalk cliffs often higher than 100 meters such as the
famous rock of l'Aiguille in Etretat. On your left, the
charming village of Honfleur and the green seaside that
leads to the famous sea resort of Deauville... But these
places are already in Lower Normandy, so follow the visit
on the web page about this region! |
