Procedure |
The birth of a French child born outside of France can be registered
at the French Vital Statistics, at the parents request if the child
is minor, or by himself (herself) if (s)he is over 18. The birth
is then added on the parents Livret de Famille (Family Record Book).
If the birth takes place in British-Columbia, Alberta, Yukon or
North-West Territories, you can register your child at the French
Consulate in Vancouver with the following documents.

Documents required |
A photocopie of certificate of birth, small or large . (Canadian Vital Statistics,)
A certified photocopy of full birth registration. in order to get
this document, you need to contact Canadian Vital Statistics
of your province. This is the sole document, once signed by the
Director
of Canadian Vital Statistics, that
can be used to register a birth. Important : small or large types, extracts,
plastified certificates, baptism
certificates... can not replace this certified photocopy of full birth registration.
The Livret de Famille (Family Record Book) or parents birth certificates.
The proof of French nationality (only if the parents are not
registered at the Consulate of Vancouver) : certificate of French
nationality or French National ID Card.
NB : the passport is a travel document and thus is not relevant as proof of
nationality.
Documents (originals) sent for the registration will be kept by
the Consulate.

The registration is done immediately.

Fees |
The birth registration is free of charge from the French administration.
However, you will need to pay some fees to the Canadian Provincial
administration. To find out the exact amount, please contact Canadian
Vital Statistics directly.
